The Shop RV Guide to Caravan Security

Caravan Security Buyers' Guide

Caravan security is one of the most important steps you can take as an owner to protect yourself, your investment, and its contents. Whether your caravan is on the road or in storage, taking the proper security measures will help you to avoid theft and vandalism and give you peace of mind, knowing that your caravan is safe.

Luckily, you don't need an expensive and high-tech anti-theft system to keep your caravan secure - with a few of the right pieces, you'll be able to deter any would-be burglar and have complete security without needing to spend an arm and a leg. In this Buyers' Guide, we'll introduce you to some of our favourite caravan security essentials and explain their purpose so that you can avoid making yourself an easy target.

Wheel Clamps

The Klamp-It Wheel Clamp is made from heavy duty steel and can be fitted in just 30 seconds.

One of the greatest risks when you're storing a caravan is having someone hitch up and drive off with it in the night, but a wheel clamp will put a stop to that. Satisfyingly simple, a wheel clamp like this one from Klamp-It serves as both a strong visual deterrent to any potential thief and a reliable way of protecting your caravan.

Made from heavy duty steel with a powder coat finish, the Klamp-It wheel clamp has a circular cover to prevent access to the wheel nuts, while the clamp grips the tyre securely. All Klamp-It wheel clamps are manufactured to meet insurance industry and motor association standards and can be fitted easily in just 30 seconds. Suitable for tyres from 165-185mm in diameter, a wheel clamp is a security measure that should be at the top of every new owner's list.

Caravan Alarms

While visual deterrents are great for stopping thieves from driving off with your caravan, you need another layer of protection in case they try to break in. A caravan alarm is an excellent form of added security that will alert you to any intrusions while also scaring off anyone that attempts to gain entry to your van.

This WiTi alarm is one of the most advanced anti-theft alarms on the market and is the perfect choice for caravans or trailers that are fitted with electric brakes. Highly sensitive to movement, an audible alarm will sound, the lights will flash and the brakes will lock if the WiTi detects any attempt to steal or move the caravan.

The WiTi anti-theft alarm also features Intrusion Detection and comes with an included wireless Passive Infrared (PIR) motion sensor and a magnetic door switch that engages if any movement is detected outside of your caravan while the alarm is armed.

Once you've got your caravan secured, it's time to think about everything else you'll be bringing on the road. Whether its a gas bottle or a bicycle, a security cable will keep it from going walkabout when you're not around.

Made from braided stainless steel cable with a durable rubber coating, this security cable from Milenco is highly visible and almost impossible to cut through.
